About the film
BROWN is a heart-wrenching feature film shot in Butte, Montana, about a quiet immigrant being chased by ICE agents while trying to make a safe haven with a young white orphan girl he has rescued from abuse. With BROWN, Raj Amit Kumar, whose UNFREEDOM was banned in India and later distributed worldwide by Netflix, dismantles the stereotypes we have about immigrants with a deeply personal story of a displaced man's challenges and choices. In a world where we are constantly told to build walls against outsiders, BROWN is an intimate film about the human realities behind the immigration debate. Releasing 1 January 2027, through 1,000 screenings worldwide.
BROWN chronicles life through the immigrant's point of view: the reality of being defined by skin colour in an instant. It personalises the subcultures and shadow economies where outsiders of all kinds make a living. Many western countries, America among them, are seeing nationalism and fear of the outsider grow, even towards people escaping war, extreme poverty and natural disasters. BROWN tries to humanise the immigrant while the viewer lives his life for a couple of hours.
